Salkehatchie Summer Service is an outreach of the South Carolina Conference designed to involve high school and college age youth in missions and outreach to the less fortunate in our state.  Faith United Methodist is proud to be the sponsoring church for the Lexington camp for more than 15 years. 

The Lexington Salkehatchie Camp brings youth and adults from around our state together for one week to make desperately need repairs to the homes of the Sick, Elderly and disadvantaged in our area.  The youth and adults give a week of their time for this worth while outreach and even pay for the privilege.  Faith United Methodist as the sponsoring church provides additional skilled labor and arranges for sleeping accommodations and meals for the campers for the week.  It is truly amazing what 45 -50 kids and 20 – 30 adults can do in one week.

The Lexington Salkehatchie Camp is usually the week after the fourth of July.  During this week participants physically improve homes of needy families and reach out to these families and one another in friendship,  But many campers will tell you that they are the blessed ones.  Jesus has called us to love our neighbor so the Youth and Adults of the United Methodist Church join hands and hearts to experience Christian servant-hood.

 “And he said to all, ‘If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.’ ” (Luke 9:23)

How Can You Help?

• Volunteer - Youth willing to work and adults with skills to share are needed.
• Donate Supplies - Lumber, paint, caulking, plywood, linoleum, paneling, nails, etc. may be brought to individual camps.
• Financial Support - Cash contributions are needed and appreciated. Registration fees and conference benevolences do not cover all of our costs.
